The Peat Bog Banshees is a Celtic music group consisting of Will McCanless (guitar, banjo, cittern) and Michael Mahan (flute, whistle, bodhran). Michael and Will have been playing together for about 10 years. Their music consists of traditional Celtic dance music -- jigs, reels, hornpipes, waltzes, polkas and other tunes.
Although they don't sing, they occasionally have a singer join them during a live performance. Singer/songwriter Renee Henry of Stokes County North Carolina has joined them in the past, and she adds a dimension to their performances with her voice as well as her Irish harp and guitar. Rob Sharer of Raleigh has joined them also. Sharer has spent many summers in Ireland playing with musicians there, and he adds a different flavor to the music with his singing, fiddling, fluting and whistling.
Other musicians who have joined the group are Fiddlin' Al McCanless of Seagrove, Tim Smith (keyboards, flute and whistle) of Chapel Hill, Scott Walker of Greensboro on fiddle and Fred Lail of Greensboro on fiddle.
